Birds of Arabia. Edition de Luxe.
London: Henry Sotheran, 1980. Quarto, tipped in plates, folding map. Full green morocco with inlaid leather falcon design on upper board, silk endpapers, all edges gilt. The special issue of ten copies lettered A-K, this copy is "I".
Limited to ten copies bound in a spectacular full morocco; the standard issue of the reprint of Meinertzhagen's classic Birds of Arabia (first published 1954) was limited to 295 numbered copies and bound in half morocco.
Although Richard Meinertzhagen's reputation has been completely shredded his books are handsome productions and desirable collector's items. For an account of his scandalous activities refer to Garfield, Brian. The Meinertzhagen mystery: the life and times of a colossal fraud. Dulles: Potomac Books, 2007.
