The first chapter deals with general aspects of the biology, the conditions of life, and the main principles of the actual distribution of tropical terrestrial snails. A further five chapters treating the Florida-Caribbean region, Central and South America, Africa with adjacent islands, tropical Asia, and the tropical Pacific from New Guinea to Hawaii, give more detailed aspects on the life history and systematic relationship of representative genera. Each chapter is followed by a systematic account of all families living in the region. For each region an extensive list of literature about the land shell fauna has been added. The text is completed by numerous brillant photographs of living animals in their natural habitat.
