The first comprehensive Australian bird guide and the most successful Australian natural history book ever published. Probably over a million copies have been sold and it has been continuously in print from its inception through to the current day.

Very few copies of the first edition have survived with the dustwrapper. A genuine first edition dustwrapper has a blank spine, later edition dustwrappers have the edition printed on the spine below the author's name.
