The Handbook of Australian, New Zealand and Antarctic Birds (or HANZAB for short), is a comprehensive summary of the biology, with outstanding illustrations, of all 952 species of birds which occur in Australia, New Zealand and Antarctica. HANZAB is the most important scientific natural history publication ever produced in Australia, as it synthesises our knowledge of the abundance, habitat, behaviour and morphology of all Australian bird species.
The importance and quality of HANZAB ensured contributions form the world's leading experts on southern hemisphere ornithology. The project was first conceived in the mid 1980's and a total of AU$7 million dollars was raised to fund the project, run by Birdlife Australia.
