Of moths and men an evolutionary tale: the untold story of science and the Peppered moth.

Stock ID 27271 Of moths and men an evolutionary tale: the untold story of science and the Peppered moth. Judith Hooper.

New York: Norton, 2002. Octavo, photographs.

Approach this book with caution. There are many scientists who strongly disagree with the author's central premise that the case for melanistic selection in Peppered Moths is overstated. This book may not be a credible reference on the subject. Alarmingly the author is quoted as saying "I am not a creationist, but to be uncritical about science is to make it into a dogma".

'Ketterwell was a British doctor who caught butterflies and moths as an all-consuming hobby. His work became a fixture in textbooks for half a century. New research however reveals Ketterwell to be a deluded scientist who distorted facts and suppressed evidence he didn't like' [publisher's blurb].

The English edition, published in the same year, has a slightly different title 'Of moths and men: intrigue, tragedy and the Peppered Moth'.
