Tom Tregallis (1864-1938) was a well known naturalist of his day who wrote a weekly column for the Box Hil Reporter and ornithology papers in the Emu between 1919 and 1940. He is best known for his studies of Superb Lyrebirds during the 1920s and 1930s in the Dandenong Ranges at Kallista. He was renowned for camping in old hollowed out tree trunk. Tregellasia, a genus of birds in the family Petroicidae, was named by Gregory Mathews in 1912 in honour of Tom Tregellas.
