The manuscript comprises approximately 58 leaves (rectos only), mainly quarto, a mixture of corrected typescript and holograph sheets. The page proofs (octavo, 33 leaves, including preliminaries, printed rectos only) are for the Special Horticultural Number of the Victorian Historical Magazine, Volume 18, Number 1, February 1940; lacking the last two pages according to the manuscript. also included are letters from well known nursermen such as William Crowther, Hattie Leckie, and R.A. Crouch, and two fine letters from nurseryman W.R. Hawkins (quarto, 4 pages, January and August 1940), in which he reminiscences about the early days, 'having been in business continuously for 53 years'.
