Rinie van Meurs (1958) is an enthusiastic nature photographer, who after a formal education in Forestry and civil Engineering, made many private trips around America, Africa, Asia and Europe to observe and photograph wildlife. During one trip he stayed for almost a year in the remote Falkland Islands to photograph the seabirds and other wildlife. One of his latest adventures has been to photograph whales and dolphins underwater. Many of his photographs have been published in magazines and books.
Besides being a nature photographer, Rinie is also an Expedition Leader aboard ice-strengthened ships in the high latitudes of the Arctic and Antarctic. In the past 10 years he has made more than a hundred expedition voyages in these areas. These trips were primarily for. Oceanwide Expeditions to remote destinations such as the Antarctica Peninsula, South Georgia, Franz Jozef Land and Northeast Greenland. Spitsbergen has become so familiar to him; it is like his backyard no other person has done so many expedition cruises in this archipelago.
In this book you will find photographs, which represent the diverse wildlife and rich landscapes of the Arctic and Antarctic. These wild and unspoiled images give the impression of tranquility and pristine nature. However, human interference is working behind the scenes to tarnish these impressions.
