Sir Charles Frederic Belcher 1876-1970) , lawyer, British colonial jurist, and amateur ornithologist was born in Geelong. He was a founding member of the Geelong Field Naturalists' Club, the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union ( now Birdlife Australia) in 1901, and the Bird Observers Club in 1905. He is best known for The birds of the district of Geelong, Australia, 1914.
