A. J. Campbell, a foundation member of both the Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union and the Bird Observers' Club, was a prolific contributor to the journals of the day. Along with A. J. North he was the leading oological authority and his work is rightly one of the classics of Australian ornithology.
