Essays upon heredity, and kindred biological problems.

Oxford: Oxford at the Clarendon Press, (1891. second edition), Octavo, Publisher's cloth, fine copy, scarce in this condition.

August Weismann (1834-1914) was a signficant fugure in developing Darwinian evolutionary biology. He laid the foundations for germ plasm theory and realised that inheritance can only happen through haploid cells (egg and sperm) and not via diploid cells (somatic). He was the first person to reject Lamarckian inheritance.
