Edward Lear: the Parrots (the complete plates).

Koln: Taschen, 2009. Folio, slipcase, colour illustrations.

Edward Lear's monograph Illustrations of the Family of Psittacidae, or Parrots with 42 hand-coloured lithographs was first published in 1830 and as the first folio bird book with hand coloured lithographs, a format that John Gould was quick to exploit. Lear's Parrots is one of the finest bird books ever published.

Lear was nineteen years old at the time of production and drew all the birds from life in the parrot house at London Zoo. This publication is a high quality facsimile of all the plates in a loose folio with an excellent text in German, French and English.
