London: J. Debrett, 1790. Quarto, ten handcoloured engraved plates of reptiles. Modern blue half calf with the bookplates of David McPhee.
John White was chief surgeon of the First Fleet. He was also an interested amateur naturalist and after arriving at Port Jackson found time to accompany Governor Phillip on two journeys of exploration. Many important Australian animals, such as the Blue-Tongued Lizard, are figured and described for the first time. This copy is an attractive collection of all the frog and reptile plates but without the title page or text.
