Marsupials of Australia, volume three: carnivorous marsupials and bandicoots.

Marsupials of Australia, volume three: carnivorous marsupials and bandicoots. John Calaby, Tim Flannery.

Melbourne: Mallon Publishing, 1980. Folio, 49 colour plates by Rosemary Woodford Ganf. Publisher's cloth covered boards with embossed brown calf inset, limited edition of 500 copies signed and numbered by author and artist.

The third and final volume, first published 1976.

This volume covers the macropods, which represent approximately one third of the total marsupial fauna in Australia. Many are listed as endangered, and some, such as the Toolache wallaby, are classified as extinct. They range in size and habitat diversity from the largest, the red kangaroo from the inland drier regions, to the smallest, the Hypsiprimnidon rat kangaroo from the tropical rainforest of far North Queensland. It has been a special privilege to illustrate rare and beautiful animals such as the ‘Warabi' from the Mitchell Plateau in Western Australia, which has never before been hand illustrated.

"When I was commissioned in 1976 by Lansdowne Editions to illustrate a complete collection of the marsupials of Australia, the intention was to publish a three-volume set of books, each beautifully bound, and limited to 1000 copies. Volume one, depicting the possums, koalas and wombats, was published in 1980 and quickly sold out. Volume two, the carnivorous marsupials and bandicoots, followed in 1987. Volume three was due to be released in 1993, but due to changes in ownership of the Company and subsequent changes in publishing trends, Lansdowne Editions did not publish this volume(Rosemary Woodford-Ganf)".
