This book is a collection of articles written over three decades. Graham Pizzey (1930- 2001) was a superb Australian natural history writer and his text for his field guide, especially the first edition (1980), is still the standard. Anne Latreille in her obituary of (Pizzey in the Age (24 November 2001) says "His simple lucid words "like clean well washed pebbles", evoked the essence of wildlife that so excited him ..."
