The recto of the retained wrappers says "The further delays in the publication of vol. 2 of this work occasioned by the intervention of the war and the death of the late Lord Brabourne at the front have made it impossible to complete the text for volume 2. The publishers however feel that the fine series of plates executed by Mr Gronvold for the work will posses sufficient value to the subscribers to merit their publication without any further text than is to be found in vol. 1. already issued. A first series of 19 plates is therefore offered herewith. A further series, including also the missing nos. in the present series, are already printed or on the stones and it is expected will be ready very shortly. Only 200 sets of each part will be issued. October 1915".
